Fringe Benefits: Setting the Stage for Social Justice

Cootie Shots contributing writers, artists & actors at Every Picture Tells a Story

Fringe Benefits is a groundbreaking educational theatre company whose workshops and productions have earned the commendations of educators, parents and community leaders.

Fringe Benefits offers tools for constructive dialogue and action on issues of tolerance and diversity.

We are dedicated to using theatre to build bridges between diverse communities and to promoting social justice. We help schools and communities understand the damage caused by intolerance and discrimination and to address these issues through the creative process.

We are an ever-expanding alliance of artists, educators, parents, social justice activists and youth.

Fringe Benefits conducts Theatre for Social Justice workshops, institutes and residencies and works collaboratively to create plays promoting respect and appreciation for all forms of diversity, including, but not limited to: race, ethnicity, nationality, culture, socio-economic status, religion, gender, sexual orientation, family structure, ability, language, age and physical appearance.

Fringe Benefits is based in Los Angeles, California. While most of our programs are conducted in Southern California, we can and do travel just about anywhere, scheduling and funding permitting! We have toured our productions to and led workshops and residencies in hundreds of schools, universities, community and religious centers, theatres and conferences throughout California and in Connecticut, New York, North Carolina, New Mexico, Ohio, Toronto, Washington, Wisconsin, and more.

We offer a variety of different programs throughout the year, both during the school/work day, after school and on weekends. Programs vary in length from 45-to-90 minute plays and presentations, to three hour and full day workshops, In-Services and Master Classes, to five day institutes, and year-long residencies.

Fringe Benefits' programs have been lauded as a highly effective form of early hate crime prevention. We are committed to "waging peace" by working with communities to find creative and positive responses to intolerance and bigotry.

Fringe Benefits' work promotes the idea that every man, woman and child deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
